THE ILTI CHRONICLES – Vol. 57

Aug

“I advocate for education with the same fervour a politician advocates for voters — and I’m not giving up any time soon.”

So, what is Ms Evelyn trying to get across in her message this week? Don’t miss out!

In Week 7, our Lower CAE Advanced class delved into The Sound of Music, sparking lively discussions and thoughtful reflections on how music shapes our emotions and daily lives. The language focus was on discourse markers — handy tools that make both speech and writing sound more fluent, coherent, and natural.

Meanwhile, our Starters class revisited At the Beach Today, reinforcing key vocabulary and consolidating reading, speaking, and listening skills through engaging, interactive activities.

And of course, it’s not all work and no play. Our students also enjoyed their break time chatting, sharing snacks, and playing together, making learning days even brighter. Catch all their learning adventure in this week newsletter!

“Apart from the Polo Ground, I find that people these days are often stoic, lugubrious(2), solipsistic(3) and even bordering on supercilious(4).”
Pop quiz! Can you guess the meanings of the numbered words? See if you got them right as Ms Evelyn muses on staying positive amidst generally sombre moods.

From Lower KET students honing their listening and speaking skills through the story of Alek Brosko from Warsaw, to Upper KET students exploring special memories tied to meals, celebrations, and cultural dishes through the topic “A Meal to Remember”, there’s no room for boredom this week!

And because we believe in nurturing well-rounded students, you’ll also catch our students enjoying their break time with eating, chatting, or playing together! Have fun reading them all!

Happy International Friendship Day
30
Jul

This #InternationalFriendshipDay, we’re celebrating all the little moments — the laughter, the support, the shared memories — that make friendships so special.

At ILTI, we’ve seen how learning a language opens doors, but it’s the friendships formed along the way that truly make the journey unforgettable. Whether it’s a childhood bestie, a classmate, or someone halfway across the world — today’s the perfect day to say: thank you for being there.

“In a world where there is so much negativity and hardship, why don’t we put our differences aside and be that positive change our children need?”

Ms Evelyn shared this as a reflection on growing up in a traditional household where praise was rare — shaping her belief in the power of encouragement. At ILTI, we carry this mission forward by creating a nurturing space where every child feels seen, supported, and inspired to grow.

This week, our Lower PET students explored the remarkable story of “Two Stuntwomen: Amanda Foster & Dayna Grant”, while our Lower FCE students read the inspiring story of “A Fairy Tale of New York – Tarzan of Central Park”. Both stories sparked meaningful conversations and boosted confidence in reading and speaking.

This week, our Lower KET students took a reading trip to “The Town of Totnes”, picking up real-world vocabulary and building those brain muscles! Meanwhile, our FLYERS students dived into Unit 4: The Cooking Competition, a fun-filled, story-packed challenge that had them reading, writing, speaking, and listening like little language champions!

“We must persevere! We can’t let negativity and what others say mess with our goals; and most importantly, we need to be brave enough to try something that is totally outside our comfort zone.”

This spirit of courage and growth echoed through our lessons at ILTI this week. From exploring bold themes like adventure sports to diving into imaginative stories, our learners expanded their vocabulary, practised communication skills, and challenged themselves in meaningful ways.

It’s been another colourful week of discovery, learning, and stepping beyond comfort zones at ILTI!
