You’re More Fluent Than You Think
You’re More Fluent Than You Think
Be honest — how many times have you said, “My English is so bad” when you only forgot one word or mixed up a tense? We do it all the time, don’t we? But here’s a little reminder for you: your English is probably way better than you think. And we’re not just saying that to make you feel good.
First off, if you’re reading this right now — congratulations, your comprehension skills are already commendable. That might sound obvious but give yourself credit. You didn’t need a translator. You understood the title. That already counts as progress.
Now think about the everyday stuff that you do: watching shows, reading Instagram captions, laughing at TikTok videos, or humming along to your favourite songs. If you’re following along and getting the gist of it, that means your brain is already absorbing the language. You’re picking up language without even realising it. That’s your brain working incessantly, quietly collecting vocabulary like word treasures.
And when it comes to speaking, guess what? You don’t need to sound like the Queen to be fluent. Fluency is about fluidity, not flawlessness. It’s okay to say “um”, to pause, to make mistakes. Native speakers do it all the time (seriously, we say “like” and “literally” way too much). If you can convey your message — that’s communication. And that’s the whole point, isn’t it?
We get it, though. It’s easy to feel disheartened when your confidence doesn’t match your capability. Maybe you feel apprehensive, or your mind goes blank in conversations, or you think people will scrutinise your every word. But the truth is, you’re more capable than you give yourself credit for. And if you keep practising — even a little bit each day — you’ll be surprised how fast things click into place.
Of course, if you do want a little extra help (and maybe a few grammar hacks), that’s where we come in. At ILTI, we’ve been guiding students through the nuances of English in ways that are enjoyable, relevant, and above all — effective. Whether you’re polishing up your speaking skills, tackling tricky tenses, or finally trying to figure out phrasal verbs (we know… they’re chaotic), we’ve got your back.
You don’t need to be “perfect” — just curious, inquisitive, and maybe a little bit cheeky.
So next time you start doubting your English, pause. Look at how far you’ve come. And if you want to go even further, we’ll be right here, cheering you on.
