THE ILTI CHRONICLES – Vol. 58

“We both texted each other, secretly hoping the other would suggest we go back to sleep, but neither of us did.”
A rainy morning, an all-weather walkway, and a quiet promise to show up anyway — read on to discover the simple yet inspiring moment between our Director of Schools and her faithful PA. Here’s a hint: there’s a takeaway in it for everyone.

Ever heard of ‘costing an arm and a leg’ or ‘keeping an eye out’?
Our Upper FCE students had the chance to bring those body idioms to life with their creative short stories. Trust us, these pieces will make you smile, nod, and perhaps even draw a giggle out of you! They also prove that English can be as expressive as it is fun, so dive into their imaginative worlds in this week’s newsletter now!

“I advocate for education with the same fervour a politician advocates for voters — and I’m not giving up any time soon.”

So, what is Ms Evelyn trying to get across in her message this week? Don’t miss out!

In Week 7, our Lower CAE Advanced class delved into The Sound of Music, sparking lively discussions and thoughtful reflections on how music shapes our emotions and daily lives. The language focus was on discourse markers — handy tools that make both speech and writing sound more fluent, coherent, and natural.

Meanwhile, our Starters class revisited At the Beach Today, reinforcing key vocabulary and consolidating reading, speaking, and listening skills through engaging, interactive activities.

And of course, it’s not all work and no play. Our students also enjoyed their break time chatting, sharing snacks, and playing together, making learning days even brighter. Catch all their learning adventure in this week newsletter!

“Apart from the Polo Ground, I find that people these days are often stoic, lugubrious(2), solipsistic(3) and even bordering on supercilious(4).”
Pop quiz! Can you guess the meanings of the numbered words? See if you got them right as Ms Evelyn muses on staying positive amidst generally sombre moods.

From Lower KET students honing their listening and speaking skills through the story of Alek Brosko from Warsaw, to Upper KET students exploring special memories tied to meals, celebrations, and cultural dishes through the topic “A Meal to Remember”, there’s no room for boredom this week!

And because we believe in nurturing well-rounded students, you’ll also catch our students enjoying their break time with eating, chatting, or playing together! Have fun reading them all!
