Who Runs the World? Women!
Who Runs the World? Women!
Every March 8th, the world gets a little brighter, a little bolder, and a lot more empowered because hey, it’s International Women’s Day! It’s that time of year when the world hits pause to celebrate our powerhouses who run boardrooms, classrooms, operating rooms, and yes, even living rooms (because managing a family should be an Olympic sport)!
From Amelia Earhart’s courageous feat in attempting to circumnavigate the Pacific Ocean to the ever-so-inspiring Malala Yousafzai schooling the world on girls’ rights for education, history is filled with women who, again and again, prove that glass ceilings are meant to be shattered, not just admired. Of course, it’s only reasonable to also celebrate those who put the extra in ordinary—the superwomen we all call moms, the lady bosses adroitly juggling Zoom calls and deadlines, and the fierce girlfriends who hype us up when we need it most.
In today’s era, girls shouldn’t be afraid to do more. While stereotypes still exist, no one should define another’s worth based on their gender. Girls should do this; girls shouldn’t do that – those are notions in the past. With more women redefining the world, nothing should stop one from dreaming, doing, and achieving something they believe in.
No matter how delicate, gentle, or impassioned, every girl deserves a chance to blossom in her own way. Moreover, being strong doesn’t mean you have to turn into a fierce warrior (unless you want to, of course). It’s about standing up for what you believe in, even if your voice shakes a little. Whether it’s presenting in class, trying out martial arts, or starting a conversation with someone new, every little act of bravery counts! You can be the girl who stands her ground and provides a warm hug right after.
This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action”, is all about pressing the fast-forward button on progress for women’s rights. It’s a call to walk the talk, delivering impactful actions that make a real difference. So, let’s no longer sit still and look pretty, and let’s amplify women’s achievements and keep striving for change that empowers them ferociously. Because when women rise, everyone benefits!
Happy International Women’s Day!
